Medical Informatics (Bachelor)

Digitalisation is transforming every aspect of life – including healthcare. But how can digital information and systems help to provide better care for people? To ensure that doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals can do their jobs effectively, digital technologies must be efficiently tailored to the specific requirements of patient care. Key questions addressed by the programme are:

  • How does the healthcare system work, and how can digital technologies support doctors and other healthcare professionals in diagnosis, treatment and care?
  • How can medical data be collected, stored, processed and exchanged securely?
  • How is reliable and secure software for medical applications developed?
  • How can information systems in the healthcare sector be integrated and designed to be interoperable?
  • How can AI be used to improve healthcare?

During the programme, you will learn how digitalisation in healthcare can be effectively shaped for the benefit of patients. In doing so, you will, for example, familiarise yourself with information systems and develop the skills to plan and develop such systems. Group work and collaboration within interdisciplinary teams are also part of the study programme. You will learn to develop solutions together with people from the fields of computer science, medicine and other areas of healthcare. This will enable you to work directly at the interface between computer science and healthcare later on.
