Journals
The University Library provides access to a wide range of printed and digital academic journals covering all fields of study and research at WHZ. In addition to our core academic collection, we also offer a selection of current daily and weekly newspapers.
Important for Online Access: When working off-campus, please remember to always activate your VPN connection (Group: FullTunnel). Otherwise, you will not be able to access the EZB (Electronic Journals Library) or our licensed content.
Finding Journals and Newspapers
Daily and Weekly Newspapers
You can access our newspaper collection through various digital services or in print on-site. We have summarized all the essential information and direct links for you in our blog post (German language).
Printed Academic Journals
All printed volumes can be found via the library catalog (simply apply the "Zeitschrift, E-Journal" search filter). On-site in the Main and Branch Libraries, current issues are displayed directly on the journal racks in the reading rooms (visible on the display flaps and stored in the compartments behind them). Older volumes are kept in separate areas; the catalog will explicitly indicate if an issue needs to be requested from the closed stacks in advance.
Digital Academic Journals (E-Journals)
The most reliable and direct way to access our digital journals is through the Electronic Journals Library (EZB).
The EZB displays all available access options and uses a traffic light system to indicate access rights:
- Green light: Freely accessible to everyone (Open Access).
- Yellow light: Accessible for WHZ members (connection to the campus network / VPN required).
- Red light: KNo access for WHZ members; please check if the item can be requested via interlibrary loan.
Finding Journal Articles
Individual articles can be found in subject-specific or multidisciplinary databases. If the full text is not directly available, please note the title, volume, year, and issue number, and check its availability in the library catalog or the EZB. You can also request the article via interlibrary loan.
ZDB German Union Catalogue of Serials
If you cannot find what you are looking for in our collection, you can use the Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB) for your research. The ZDB is the world's largest specialized database for serial titles, listing all printed journals, newspapers, and periodicals available in Germany.
