Reference management software helps you organize academic literature efficiently, insert citations, and automatically generate bibliographies. The library provides support through training sessions and individual consultations for Zotero (open-source / free) and Citavi (campus license).
Zotero
Zotero is a free, cross-platform reference manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is particularly suitable for long-term academic projects and can continue to be used without restriction after graduation.

Citation Styles for Zotero
We offer customized citation styles for Zotero tailored to various departments. Please make sure to read the instructions to ensure correct usage! Currently available:

Installing Zotero Citation Styles
Save the desired style file to your device. Then add the style in Zotero by navigating to:
Edit → Settings → Cite (on macOS: Zotero → Settings → Cite)
Under the style manager, click the plus icon (+) and select the downloaded file.

Storage Space & Cloud Usage
The free Zotero Cloud provides up to 300 MB of storage for attachments such as PDFs. If you need more space, you can purchase additional Zotero storage plans or integrate an external WebDAV-compatible cloud storage.
Members of WHZ have the option to use up to 10 GB of storage space via the WHZ-Cloud.
Citavi
Citavi 7 and Citavi Web are available to you free of charge. Citavi is particularly suited for Windows users and for working with MS Word.
Citavi Citation Styles for Download
The library provides customized Citavi citation styles for several faculties. If your faculty uses a custom citation style that is not yet listed here, please let us know. We will gladly look into adapting or adding it.

Installing Citavi
Download Citavi via the official website: https://www.citavi.com/de/download
Register using your university email address and select WHZ as your institution.
Installing Citavi Citation Styles
Save the file under:
Documents → Citavi7 → Custom Citation Styles
Then click in Citavi on:
Citation → Citation styles→ Change citation style
and select the corresponding citation style.
The citation style must be installed on each device individually. Usage in Citavi Web is not possible.
Storage Space in Citavi
For cloud projects, up to 5 GB of storage space is available by default for attachments such as PDFs. This storage applies across all cloud projects for a single account..
If more storage is required, additional Citavi cloud storage can be added for a fee.
Alternatively, Citavi projects can also be saved locally on your own computer or on a network drive. Local projects are not subject to any storage limits.
