FAQ: Examination Matters

Examination Deadlines

What deadlines apply for completing examinations?

During your studies, you must complete at least one examination as specified in the relevant examination regulations within a four-semester period. Otherwise, you will be de-registered. (See § 22 (2) No. 8 in conjunction with § 19 (2) No. 7 SächsHSG)

A failed first attempt must be retaken within one year; otherwise, it is automatically counted as failed again (one-year deadline).

If you fail your first retake, you will receive written notification and must submit the enclosed application within four weeks. Failure to submit this application will result in de-registration, as the module and the entire study program will then be considered definitively failed. Once your second retake has been approved, it must be taken at the next available examination date. Please contact the examiner directly to arrange the date.

What happens if I do not complete any examination within four semesters?

This will result in de-registration, as you will not have provided any of the academic achievements required by the examination regulations within four subject-related semesters (see § 22 (2) No. 8 in conjunction with § 19 (2) No. 7 SächsHSG).

What are the consequences of exceeding the standard period of study by four semesters?

If you exceed the standard period of study by four semesters, your final examination — and consequently all module examinations of your study program that you have not yet completed — will be deemed failed on the first attempt (see § 36 (4) SächsHSG). You will then have one year to retake them (one-year deadline, see above).

Which examination deadlines apply during a leave of absence?

During a leave of absence, examination deadlines are suspended. You may take examinations during this time but are not required to do so. If you do participate, the result achieved will be valid.
