Leave of absence

It is possible to be grant leave of absence of studies due to important reasons. For this it is necessary to submit an application to the Student Secretariat online via the study service. Reasons for a leave of absence can be: 

• Medically certified illnessJustified social hardship
• Maternity leave/ Parental leave as well as care of one’s own children 
• Care of family members in need of care
• Study at a university abroad (except where the study semester is recognized as a study semester).

The time of the leave of absence is not credited to the regular period of study. The leave of absence is only possible for the following semester, not retroactively. The application for the leave of absence for one semester is to be submitted to the Student Secretariat via the study service with all the required documentation during the re-registration period. The approval of the leave of absence is issue for the respective full semester and should normally not exceed two semesters. Exempted of this are in particular maternity leave/ parental leave as well as care of one’s own children.

During the period of absence students remain members of WHZ as well and are obligated to pay the semester fee on a regular basis. However, there is the possibility of an Exemption of the semester fee through the student union. During the leave of absence there is no obligation, but the possibility to participate in examinations according to study – and examination regulations.
