Do Volume/aus dem Band: Fontes para outras histórias da educação dos surdos

Resumo: 

O presente texto percorre a história da surdez através dos olhos e das palavras dos maiores pensadores, pedagogos e médicos que cruzaram a sua vida com a dos surdos desde Platão até ao século XVIII. Nessa jornada, documenta-se e “ouve-se” o posicionamento de pensadores Surdos que fizeram parte dessa história, devolvendo a importância de uma visão equilibrada na interminável discussão em torno da surdez e da língua de sinais. O retorno a tais fontes históricas aponta para o quanto a leitura de cada época pode evocar, no diálogo com textos do passado, outras interpretações e aprofundamentos.

Zusammenfassung:

Dieser Text bietet einen Durchgang durch die Geschichte der Gehörlosigkeit von Platon bis ins 18. Jahrhundert aus der Perspektive der größten Denker, Pädagogen und Ärzte, die in ihrem Leben mit dem der Gehörlosen in Kontakt gekommen sind. Dabei wird auch die Position der gehörlosen Denker, die Teil dieser Geschichte sind, dokumentiert und „gehört“, wodurch die Wichtigkeit einer ausgewogenen Sichtweise in der endlosen Diskussion um Gehörlosigkeit und Gebärdensprache verdeutlicht wird. Die Rückkehr zu diesen historischen Quellen zeigt, wie die Lektüre jeder Epoche im Dialog mit Texten aus der Vergangenheit andere Interpretationen und tiefere Einsichten hervorrufen kann.

Abstract: 

This text encompasses the history of deafness through the eyes and words of the greatest scholars, pedagogues, and doctors who crossed their lives with deaf people from Plato to the eighteenth century. In this journey, the positioning of Deaf scholars who were part of this history is documented and "heard," retrieving the importance of a balanced vision in the endless discussion around deafness and sign language. The return to such historical sources points out how much the reading of each era can evoke, in dialogue with past texts, other interpretations, and deepen understanding.
